Adult Faith Formation

The week of July 16th Fr. David Theroux lead 35 adults from the parish in a class titled "Creed II: Christology." The course helped us to get a better understanding of Jesus in our Catholic teaching and a more personal understanding of Christ.

Why is Jesus called Christ?

The word "Christ" [Christos] comes from the Greek translation of the Hebrew Mes¬siah, which means "anointed." It became the name proper to Jesus...because he accomplished perfectly the divine mission that "Christ" signi¬fies. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 436)

"There is no salvation through anyone else, nor is there any other name under heaven given to the human race by which we are to be saved." (Acts 4:12)

Here is a reflection from one of the participants:

Thank you for asking me to write something. It made me truly go within myself to see how God is helping me to grow closer to him and to do his will. I enjoyed the course very much. When you feel tired and think you can't go anymore just know that God has placed you in a position to help and be an example to many.

I attended four nights of the Creed II: Christology class. This was the first time in a long time I have attended a course of this magnitude. Having attended bible study classes, revivals, and retreats in the past does not compare to the experience of this course. Father David provided the information in a clear and understandable form, from the babes in the walk with the Lord to the well seasoned. Everyone in class brought something that someone else in the room could use to further their understanding and knowl¬edge of Christ. It was truly a rewarding and enlightening experience for me. This course, the participants, and the Leaders (Fr. David and Mrs. Boucree) have only made me hunger for more knowledge about my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Thank you for the experience and I look forward to the next course.

God Bless you and yours,

Vanessa

"We Have Come This Far by FAITH"

This month we will start a process of celebrating the Sacrament of Matrimony. We are a blessed community as God has allowed us to have a large number of married couples in our church parish. In early August, we have scheduled 'A Friday Night Fish Fry. The evening will consist of prayer and faith shar¬ing, using the principle of Umoja or unity with God being the center of our lives as couples. We will enjoy a fried fish dinner and have lots of laughs as we play the Newly Wed Game, through the leadership of Dr. Dereck Rovaris.

We will began our evening with a greeting, however instead of using our customary form of greeting, we will use an African Greeting. "Do you have the strength"? We will respond with "If you have the strength, I have the strength". We use this concept with the understanding that Man's strength or well-being is a participation in our sharing in God's strength. God is Strength. God is our Guide. God is the center of who we are as couples and as people.

Don't forget the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, August 15, a Holy Day. Mass is scheduled for 8:30am and 6:00pm. Let us take the time to honor Mary on the day she was raised above the choirs of angels to lasting glory with her son Jesus.

It's been two years since Katrina washed her way into our lives and we are still walking in faith. Sometimes we look back and wonder how we got over but still we rise. It is with an attitude of thankfulness that we accept and count the many blessings we have received since that time. Take time to thank somebody who helped you make it over.

The one thing that is most noticeable in our community is that we rebuild with worship, scripture and prayer. Our church is full on Sunday mornings as we come praising Him. We renew by serving others and we have regrouped by sharing what little we have with each other.
